Learn More About Our Natural Ingredients

Omega 3 & 6 are Essential fatty acids, or EFAs, that humans and other animals must ingest because the body requires them for good health but cannot synthesize them. Omega 3 and 6 are “Essential” fatty acids- so called because they are not produced naturally by the human body.

Essential fatty acids are sometimes added to pet food but because of the cooking and preparation processes the enzymes are broken down and degraded and provide little or none of the benefits they need.

The term “essential fatty acid” refers to fatty acids required for biological processes but does not include the fats that only act as fuel. Essential fatty acids should not be confused with essential oils, which are “essential” in the sense of being a concentrated essence.

Only two fatty acids are known to be essential for humans and animals alpha – Linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) and linoleic acid (an Omega 3 fatty acid). Some other fatty acids are sometimes classified as “conditionally essential,” meaning that they can become essential under some developmental or disease conditions; examples include Docosahexaenoic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) and gamma -Linolenic acid from the seed of evening primrose (an omega-6 fatty acid).

Two essential fatty acids are Linolenic acid (LA) Alpha-Linolenic acid (ALA). They are widely distributed in plant oils. The human body has a limited ability to convert ALA into the l onger-chain Omega 3 fatty acids – Eicosapentaenoic acid  (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are provided from fish and in particular oily fish. Therefore our Omega supplements contains all three fatty acids for balance.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble nutrient that is essential for pet’s muscles, circulatory system, and injury healing. It is also an antioxidant, helping to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Technically speaking, Vitamin E exists in four naturally occurring forms and refers to compound groups called tocopherols and tocotrienols. Two of the most common forms of vitamin E are Y-tocopherol, found in soybean and corn oil, and A- tocopherol, found in olive and sunflower oils.

To really get into the nitty-gritty – Vitamin E protects Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA’s). Vitamin A and sulfur containing Amino Acids from oxidation. The more PUFAs in the diet, the more Vitamin E is necessary to protect pets from oxidation increases.

Which is why Vitamin E is so important in addition to the internal benefits, Vitamin E is also good for skin and coat health. It is often found in dog shampoos because it can help reduce flakiness and promote a healthy, glossy coat. Because Vitamin E is also known to boost the immune system, some call it the perfect ‘winter vitamin’ since cold weather can dry out the skin and compromise the immune system.
